Not knowing your brother, its hard to say. Does he have a low self-esteem? If so, this could be his way of seeking your mothers approval to make himself feel better. For some people, online dating is a step backward. Its like accepting charity when you’re way too prideful in a way. Most people have a difficult time accepting the fact that they can’t seem to find a special someone on their own and need to resort to the help of strangers (i.e. internet dating services). Just support your brother, stroke his ego now and then. Tell him he looks nice in his new shirt or compliment him on his hair style. He is probably just feeling a bit awkward and self-conscious.

Maybe he wants her advice.. as she is a woman and he knows you are too smart , you don’t need help to get a guy.. but he may be helpless and he may trust your mom and by telling her about it.. he may ask.. ”Should I have done this differently.. you are a woman.. what would you have thought when you were 28 and a guy had told you that? A matter of trust I believe and a matter of insecurity on the part of your brother.. as he is 35 and is not married and is dating online he is not so sure in the company of women and even if your mom is older, she can remember what it was like when she was young and at least give him some valuable tips maybe. I guess that is what he is looking for.. a womans perspective on his way.. if he should do it differently . he is insecure but I dont’ think it too weird considering the fact that he has not much experience with women at age 35…

I think it just seems weird to you because you and your mother have a different sort of relationship to that of her and your brother. I tell my mother almost anything, she is one of my best friends. When I was younger our relationship was similar to what you describe, but as I got older we got closer. Your brother is telling your mother about things that were either frustrating or wonderful and likely trying to glean advice from her to use on future dates. You have to remember, that women can often times be incredibly frustrating to men and chances are he is trying to get some insight as to what went right or wrong on his dates, and who is better to ask than your mom? After all, mom’s don’t judge and she will always love him, which gives him a sense of comfort when he talks to her.
